Vacation Break

Hi folks,

Just to let you know, we're off for the Summer (now it's finally here!).  We're back on Wednesday 12th September, usual time, usual place :)  Look forward to seeing you then.

We may well get together in one of many of Beeston's great coffee & tea shops during the holidays though.  I'll keep you posted :D

Enjoy the sunshine, and if you can't, may your fans keep you suitably cool xx

End of the Exhibition and Raffle Draw

What a great way to end such a splendid exhibition!  Many thanks to those who came to help us close the exhibition and take part in the raffle draw.  We had lots of fabulous prizes from local businesses - special thanks go to Boots plc, The Treasury Gift Shop, ArtWorks, Square17teen Hairdressers, and my Mum, Pat Morris!  I've not totted up the exact figures, but I think we raised about £60, which is not to be sneezed at.  It'll help our work continue, and that's marvellous.

Thank you to all who visited during the fortnight we were running, and we hope that you were inspired and delighted by the wonderful talent that was on show.  If you're interest has been piqued, then come and join us for our last session of this academic year on Wednesday 18th July at 1.30pm.  Stephanie Morris will be leading the class with a look at Chinese brush strokes.

Art Exhibition 2nd - 13th July 2012

Had the launch party today, and thank you to all who attended (and tried to attend!).  The rain was shocking, and the parking around Beeston Library for disabled people is appalling - I certainly won't be leaving the house for a few days after today!

But what a FAB start to a great exhibition.  The bubbly was flowing, smiles and laughter filled the room, and members, volunteers and supporters joined the merry throng.  There was some real interest in joining the group, which is marvellous!  We welcome those who want to come along and see if NB is for them.

It is such a great group, I know I sometimes sound like a broken record, but no matter who joins, or leaves, the group itself is wonderfully warm and welcoming.  We all struggle in some way, so the sympathy is really empathy, and there's always a listening ear as well as someone willing to chat.  It isn't a noisy group as such, but there is a healthy balance of times of quiet and times of laughter and chatter.

Tuesday 26 June 2012

We're just a little overwhelmed by the amount still left to do to prepare for the exhibition next week, so if you feel able to come and help us put up the art work, we're doing that on Saturday 30th June at midday.  It's at Beeston Library on the first floor (there is a lift!) and we'd love to have your help :)

The exhibition starts for real on Monday 2nd July, and we'd love to see you all at the launch party, commencing at 3pm. We'll be raising a glass of bubbly and celebrating all those who have helped us to get where we are.  There will also be a chance to buy raffle tickets.  And the prizes are great!  We've had wonderful contributions from Boots, The Treasury, Square 17 and others.  The draw won't take place until Friday 13th at midday, so you've plenty of time to buy either at the exhibition (from NB team members only, NOT the library staff, thanks), or from group members at our weekly meeting.  Alternatively you can let me know you're interested via the email address and we can meet up and distribute tickets :)

So looking forward to this coming fortnight - and thank you all for being a big part of it!

New Beginnings Art Group

Welcome to our blog, here you will find information on our group and how we can help you. New Beginnings is an art group specifically for people who are below retirement age, but who have had to stop working due to health problems.

We meet on Wednesday afternoons between 1.30pm and 3.30pm during term time at the Oasis Centre, Union Street, Beeston.  The group is held in a disabled-friendly building and welcomes both experienced and novice painters.  We have an artist/teacher three times each half term, and on the other weeeks, the group members help each other.  We hold a small amount of art materials for those who would like to have a go before buying their own.  Cost is kept to a minimum and is paid per half term.  Tea, coffee and biscuits are also provided during the meeting.

For more information about the group please contact Alli (see contacts page).
